Chiang Mai adventures

We met Kom - totally randomly. He is friends with Mr Suaynam who owns Lanna Thai Restaurant in Musselburgh. Mr Suaynam's children, Sean and William's dad were Campie pupils. He gave us LOADS of brilliant information.

This is what we did....

We went to see a temple.

We saw LOADS of WORMS (silk worms) check them out..

It takes 40 cocoons (boiled) to make a half km of silk thread.

AND we saw parasols being made and painted - you should see the amount of work that goes into them. They even make the paper (P7s you know how hard that is!).

Last night we went to Dr Thein Lwin's centre for critical thinking for Burmese migrant workers. We had a great chat with the students who were studying Thai, computing and English. They were inspirational. Every one of them works through the day and goes to school at night. They all have their own amazing story to tell.

We're off to Mae Sot on the bus - 6 hours.

Looking forward to lots of COMMENTS...

Silk worms look yuk! Is it hot where you are? Are you missing Scotland?

  3. Hi Sheila - so good to see you have managed to introduce the Mae Sot experience to Campie teachers too...well done. Glad to know you are all there safely and no doubt adjusting to the humidity and heat. Take care from a very hot Jasper in the Canadian Rockies. Rowena and Malcolm xx

  4. Hi Adrian, Rachel and baby Hart.... dying to see your attachment but can't until we get home unless you send it to sheila.laing@hotmail.com......Thanks for commenting. It's lovely to hear from you.

Rowena, wow! Canada to Thailand.... yes, this time last year, I wondered if Campie might be interested so it's great to be here with new teachers who will lead the next partnership forward. It's pretty hot and full of beasties! Many bites already. Jasper? You've not taken your dog to the rockies have you? Who's Jasper? Love to you both. Sheila

  5. Oops, it's now 5am and hysteria is setting in! I have of course woken poor Geoff up and he says,'Isn't Jasper a place?' Oh yes... that makes more sense... I am now getting off the internet before I make more inappopriate comments. Night......
